Wood Wharf, London
The Landscape Inteventions at Wood Wharf were devised as a counterbalance to the scale, form and arrangement of the buildings. The curvilinear sinuous form of the wrap avoids the static rectilinear space that the building grid would impose. A fluid and responsive landscape allows people to navigate the edge, occupy it and be close to the water.
The form, location and arrangement of the wrap reacts to environmental factors, people pressure, and site constraints. It provides a continuous promenade serving indirectly as a way-finding device to negotiate various urban environments. The wrapping of timber around the edge of the site and the creation of an expansive walkway is a grand public gesture which signifies the publics stake in the waters edge and is important in establishing a strong community at Wood Wharf.
