Parc1, Seoul
The Sunken Garden
A ground plane of water plates lifts and tilts at varying angles occupying the area between the facade of the buildings, the outer wall and in front of the rock-pile. A thin film of continuous running water runs over each plate enlivening the plaza through shifting light, patterns and movement and sound. The fractured language of the rock-pile and water plates continues into the lobbies, expressed as granite paving with polished strips establishing a pattern which unifies the exterior world with the interior. Island in a light grey granite mark main pedestrian areas such as lifts, entrances, and escalators.
The Parc1 landscape creates a dramatic environment which workers, shoppers and the public can escape and take refuge from weather, work and crowds.
