The project’s aim is to create an integrated landscape condition within the heart of Perth that provides the benefits of a green-space for the city while acknowledging the commercial demands placed on sites with significant economic potential. Demonstrating the possibilities of landscape serving as a structuring mechanism in the organisation of public space and distribution of urban programme, the project defines new relationships between public and private space in the city.
The Parkscape is conceived as a linear 3 dimensional connective element – linking the existing Perth train station with a proposed multipurpose stadium located at the western edge of the site. Providing generous green space on its surface, the park articulates across the site creating spaces for retail and commercial purposes underneath. The park surface is designed as a porous field – intersected and interrupted by a series of arcades, lifts, bridges and atriums that accommodate the need for ventilation, universal access and natural light. A linear promenade runs parallel to the park providing a more conventional urban element with residential, entertainment and civic programme defining its edges. The creation of an integrated landscape condition contributes to the environmental and sociological needs of the city as well as providing a mixed-use location that is economically viable
